THE THUTHUKA PROGRAMME
Developing and Advancing Excellence in Researchers

REDIBA
Women in Research, and
Researchers in Training

Thuthuka Programme is launched!

The NRF is a new organisation with a new mandate from the NRF Act. Since the beginning of the year the NRF has been involved in the invention of this new organisation. Out of this process a strategic plan was developed and tested with the Higher Education Institution sector. The Research Capacity Development strategic plan was identified as a priority in order to enact the mandate of the NRF in support and promotion of human resource development in higher education institutions.

The Thuthuka team led by Karen Le Roux - with Patience Tshose; Nonhlanhla Khuzwayo and Diana de Clercq - has been busy developing a strategy to address the needs of the designated groups of researchers. The programme intends to strategically position women, black researchers and young researchers, as well as disabled researchers within the research innovation and knowledge generation arena nationally and internationally. After extensive consultation with the key stakeholders both at NRF and at Higher Education Institutions, we are now ready to launch this programme and a call for proposals is now opened until 31 January 2002.

A detailed programme framework, a manual detailing how to apply for funding in this programme and a link to the electronic application form are available at:

The NRF invites all the institutions and interested researchers to come on board and participate as partners in the Thuthuka Programme.
