CALL FOR PROPOSALS
For provincial organisers of SET WEEK 2002
In Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Free State

An amount of up to R1 million per province is available

National Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) Week aims to make people more aware of the excitement and benefits of science, engineering and technology in our everyday lives.

For next year awareness campaigns and focus week events must be organised in the provinces of Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Free State from 6 - 11 May 2002. These events are a continuation of South Africa's Year of Science and Technology in 1998, and SET weeks during 2000 and 2001.

We invite organisations or consortia to submit innovative and comprehensive proposals for conceptualising, organising and presenting such a campaign and focus week event in one of the three provinces mentioned above. The successful contractor (or group of partners within a consortia) must be based within the relevant province.

Proposals must illustrate how the following specific objectives will be achieved:

  • An awareness campaign leading up to the focus week event
  • A high-profile focus week event offering a wide range of interactive experiences and ensuring maximum public participation
  • Comprehensive media coverage before, during and after the event
  • Maximum involvement of relevant role-players in science, engineering and technology and education within the province
  •  Involvement of community organisations
  • Significant contribution to public awareness and appreciation of science, engineering and technology
  • Lasting impact and partnerships beyond the focus week event

Within the broad society specific target groups are the youth, women, disabled people and communities who have traditionally been excluded from science and technology.

National SET Week 2002 is an initiative of the Department of Arts, Culture, Science and Technology (DACST), implemented by the Foundation for Education, Science and Technology (FEST).

If you are interested in this challenging opportunity, please contact Lesley Di Santolo at telephone (012) 322-6404 or e-mail lesleyd@fest.org.za to obtain detailed guidelines for preparing your proposal.

The final proposal must reach FEST no later than 17 January 2002
