THE ALTRAN FOUNDATION FOR INNOVATION

Technological Innovation For the benefit of society

Altran, the European leader in technological consulting, is playing a major role in the development of innovative, far-reaching technologies. In June of 1996, Altran made its skills as a "facilitator" of innovation available to the general public by creating the Altran Foundation for Innovation.

The Altran Foundation awards technological innovations in fields that change from year to year: heritage preservation in 1997, the fight against pain and physical handicaps in 1998, water quality and access in 1999, food safety in 2000 and improving living conditions in urban areas in 2001.

The Altran Foundation awards an annual prize aimed at research and development teams from businesses, schools, universities, public and private research organizations and associations.

An Innovative Grant: One Year of Technological support

The Altran Foundation prize provides winners with one year of technological support, in the form of technical expertise for project development. This original form of patronage enlists the aid of European consultants and managers from Altran and in financial terms is worth around one million euros.

A Completely Independent European Jury

The jury of the Altran Foundation for Innovation includes international specialists from the world of research, education and industry. It is composed of five permanent members from the Foundation Board of Directors, independent of Altran. In addition, members are selected every year according to their expertise in the relevant subject.

Through the Foundation, Altran has contributed to a range of innovative projects including
developing a robot that can bio-encapsulate living cells to ease the pain of the critically ill; put the finishing touches to a seawater desalination unit to provide third-world villages with an independent source of drinking water; and provided support for the creation of an intelligent electronic device that can identify any breaks in the cold chain, thus improving food safety.

Altran Foundation Announces Theme For 2002 Innovation Award

The Altran Foundation is launching its European Scientific Prize 2002 around the following theme :

"Technological Innovation for Developing Countries"

This vast theme is looking to reward projects in the fields of health, habitation, energy, food, urban and rural waste treatment, transport, access to water and communications in developing countries. With one priority : that the technology is transferable so that it may be appropriated by the beneficiaries in the long term.

Candidates are from schools, universities, research centers, laboratories, associations, companies or other private or public organizations. They can apply individually or in teams. They must show the innovating characteristics and transferability of their project as well as its use for the largest number and its economical and technical feasibility. The innovation must have been designed and developed in one of the European countries where Altran is present as of 1 January 2001 (Germany, Austria, Belgium, Spain, France, Great Britain, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Switzerland, and Sweden), or in close co-operation with one of these countries.

The application forms are available via the web site of the Altran Foundation or by letter or fax sent to the Foundation. The deadline for submitting the entry forms is the 1 February 2002.

The judges will announce the winner at the prize giving ceremony in Paris on 19 June 2002.
