Great offer for Teachers attending Sasol Scifest

A teacher looks on as pupils learn more about agriculture from an ARC representative. Sasol Scifest 2002 aims to promote a culture of science in South Africa in a fun and festive way. The organisers of Sasol Scifest 2002 recognize that the awareness of science, engineering and technology begins in the classroom, and so acknowledge the integral role that teachers can play through classroom activities and the guidance of their students. Sasol Scifest 2002 will feature a powered-up series of workshops geared exclusively for teachers to equip then with the necessary skills to forge a culture of science in the South African classroom.

Teachers attending the festival can choose from a wide variety of workshops presented by passionate scientists, all leaders in their fields. Topics range from computers in education, papermaking, the solar system and spectroscopes; to the creation of spatial literacy and the use of the coelacanth to address issues relating to marine a and coastal conservation. And that's only the beginning! Sasol Scifest 2002 features more than 400 other events ranging from lectures, interactive exhibitions, workshops and films, to a Street Parade, Sunset Shows, Science Olympics, and a nightly game drive.

Sasol Scifest 2002 also wishes to acknowledge teachers who motivate and encourage their students at Sasol Scifest through a special Teacher Registration offer for educators who register before the Festival. All registered teachers will receive a special ID registration card that will entitle them to observer status at all workshops attended by their groups, as well as FREE entry to all evening lectures. In return, the organisers require that teachers accompany students and structure the group's visit. As an added bonus to encourage registration, Sasol Scifest will be giving away a R500,00 Woolworth's Voucher, sponsored by Sasol Ltd to one lucky teacher every evening during the Sunset show!

The Teacher Registration form may be found on the inside front cover of the Booking Kit which accompanies the Sasol Scifest 2002 Official Programme. Please note that registration closes on 10 March 2002. The Official Programme and Booking Kit for Sasol Scifest 2002 is hot off the press and available for R10,00 at outlets nationwide.
