NATIONAL SCIENCE, ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY WEEK
National
Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) Week aims to make people more aware of
the excitement and benefits of science, engineering and technology in our
everyday lives.
For 2002 awareness campaigns and focus week events must be organised in the
provinces of Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Free State from 6 - 11 May 2002. These
events are a continuation of South Africa's Year of Science and Technology in
1998, and SET weeks during 2000 and 2001.
Theme of National SET Week
Taking Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) to our People.
Thrusts of National SET Week
The emphasis of National SET Week 2002 is on the following three activities
- Indigenous Knowledge Systems
- Creating partnerships through SET
- Outreach/mobile SET
Objectives of National SET Week
National SET Week aims to involve science, engineering and technology
stakeholders in implementing activities, across South Africa, that illustrate
the essential and beneficial role of science, engineering and technology in the
everyday lives of all South Africans, and to generate interest in, and raise the
profile of, science, engineering and technology.
The objectives of National SET Week are
- to attract the media and generate interest in
SET,
- to move up the profile of SET in the eyes of
the public,
- to offer organisations and individuals the
opportunity of exposing the public to involvement of SET in their daily
lives,
- to provide a wide range of stimulating and
interactive experiences of SET, and
- to develop the culture of SET in South Africa.
Proposals for managing all or part of provincial
participation
We invite organisations or consortia to submit innovative and comprehensive
proposals for conceptualising, organising and presenting such a campaign and
focus week event in one of the three provinces mentioned above. The successful
contractor (or group of partners within a consortia) must be based within the
relevant province. Download the Terms of Reference in .pdf format
