Stellenbosch) offers the following professional development module for
mathematics teachers:
TITLE:
Designing interactive Excel activities for the mathematics class
DESCRIPTION:
Excel offers interesting alternative learning and thinking tools for the
mathematics class that facilitates understanding and extends learners
problem solving. For examples of the kind of activities you will design,
see:

not worked in Excel before, completing our quick tutorial beforehand will
be adequate preparation ...

The calculating and graphing features of Excel make possible multiple
representation of ideas in algebraic, geometric (graphic) and numeric
modes. This then facilitates connections within and between these
different modes. These different representation modes of Excel holds two
advantages:
1) it provides new conceptual support for learners to interpret concepts
differently.
2) It provides new ways of solving traditional problems and enables us to
solve new problems that could not traditionally be solved with algebraic
methods.
