Imvelo Yethu - Our Nature

SABC educational TV to teaches young viewers to take responsibility for the environment

A group of friends sitting under a tree with two comic strip characters
introduce us to Imvelo Yethu - Our Nature, SABC Education's latest programme  that teaches viewers to take responsibility for our precious environment. The two main characters, a boy Walter and his dog Rosie give the impression of a modern day Tom Sawyer. Walter wears a bandana around his head and is adventurous, reckless and always in trouble. His dog, Rosie has a pink nose and is very protective, affectionate, knowledgeable, and fashion conscious.

Walter, his dog and friends encourage viewers to realise that there is a
dilemma between social development and protecting nature, it is how we as
human beings handle the dilemma that is important. Throughout the programme viewers learn that there are consequences for every action that one takes.

Imvelo Yethu - Our Nature teaches us to conserve, manage, develop and
utilise our natural resources to ensure the survival of local and global
environments. The series encourages viewers to make sense of their natural
world and acquire knowledge in the Natural Sciences. Learners will be able
to demonstrate an understanding of how knowledge and skills contribute to
the management, development and utilization of natural and other resources and an understanding of the relationship between natural science and culture.

'Imvelo Yetho - Our Nature is scheduled for broadcast on SABC2 Wednesdays at 17h30 starting 2 October. The target audience is learners between the ages of 10 and 12 years old, however the problem of our land and how we look after it, is a universal one, therefore viewers of all ages will be able to learn from the series'. says SABC Education's Producer Maritha de Munnik, .
