WAITRO
The World Association of Industrial and Technological Research Organisation (
WAITRO) is an independent, not-for-profit global network of industrial research
and technology organizations. It was established to foster technological and
regional development in order to promote international co-operation in the
application of technological research to sustainable research and development.
The Regional Focal Point (RFPs) form part of the principal vehicles for
delivering the programmes of WAITRO in various regions of the world. WAITRO
Africa (RFP) has been in operation for five years since its establishment, in
1997 and is managed by CSIR in South Africa. There are 48 research and
technology member organizations, spread over
25 African countries, which are currently members of the Africa RFP.
In line with the overall objectives of WAITRO, the following are the aims of
WAITRO Africa RFP :
- To facilitate the exchange of ideas, information and experience
among members,
- To advance the technical and managerial capabilities of
members,
- To encourage and support co-operation at regional and international levels
in technological research and its industrial application,
- To promote active engagement of African RTO's in the achievement
of the objectives of New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD).
Africa Regional Focal Point : The following are key strategic priorities for
WAITRO Africa RFP:
- RTO Management and Capability Building : The focus is primarily on
Accreditation & Certification, Knowledge Management and Incubators
Programmes.
- Sectorial Priorities : The focus is primarily on ICT's and Biotechnology
projects.
- Resource Mobilisation and Utilisation: The focus is mainly on supporting
NEPAD.
