Intel takes technology across South Africa

Intel mobile truckIntel South Africa has launched a unique platform in which to spread the technology message throughout South Africa. The Intel Mobile Truck will visit a broad spectrum of technology users and potential users at sites throughout South Africa from schools and shopping centres to corporate premises.

The Unit is contained in a 12-wheeler, 12-ton Mercedes-Benz Atego truck and trailer. Inside is a complete and fully operational showcase of Intel-based information and communication technology including workstations as well as notebook PCs. The Unit will provide users with direct contact with the latest computing technology such as Hyper-Threading, found in the Intel Pentium 4 range of processors, and the latest advances in small form factor, wireless computing systems that are the hallmark of the Intel Centrino mobile technology.

Says Steven Nossel, country manager for Intel South Africa, "The Mobile
Technology Unit project is an initiative that has been designed to drive the
adoption of PCs in the home, at school and at work. Much of the future
success of South African children depends on their ability to access
computer technology and the ability to use it effectively across a range of
applications." Nossel emphasises that information technology is a critical
part of the school curriculum and that the earlier a child is exposed to the
technology, the better it will be for their future development.

"Our aim is also to illustrate just how far technology has come and what it
is capable of achieving," adds Nossel. The Mobile Technology Unit will,
therefore, not only visit schools throughout South Africa but also shopping
and entertainment venues as well as businesses.

The Mobile Technology Unit will remain a permanent part of Intel's marketing and education efforts in South Africa, maintaining a dedicated and trained crew who will clock up thousands of kilometres in their efforts to bring technology to the people.
