The Royal Society Pfizer Award - Invitation to nominate

The Royal Society is pleased to invite nominations for the Royal Society Pfizer Award 2006.

This award, sponsored by Pfizer Ltd, will recognise an innovative contribution to biological science, including basic medical science, which has made a positive sustainable impact on sub-Saharan Africa. The prize will be open to any research scientist at the outset of their career, working in the UK or Africa.

The award consists of a grant of up to £60,000 to carry out a programme of activities linked to an African centre of scientific excellence, which would normally be a University, or equivalent research centre and a £5,000 prize for the recipient.

Nominations can be made by senior academics and members of National Academies of Science. The nominations consist of statements from the nominator outlining the candidate’s scientific record, suitability for the award and impact in sub-Saharan Africa, and a proposal by the nominee for the programme of activities on which to spend the grant. For full details of the award and an on-line nomination form, visit www.royalsoc.ac.uk/pfizer

The closing date for nominations is Wednesday 31 May 2006.
