Our client is a leading global provider of technology-based solutions and
agricultural products that improve farmer productivity and food quality. They
are seeking a full-time, permanent commercial maize breeder conduct their
commercial maize breeding program in Petit, Benoni, Gauteng, South Africa
Duties:
Conducting a commercial maize breeding research program, including;
o Developing new hybrid combinations using company proprietary inbred lines;
o Collecting and summarizing data through out of the season necessary for hybrid
advancement meetings;
o Assist in the management of maize product pipeline;
o Utilizing latest breeding technologies to develop superior maize products for
SA maize markets;
o Collaborating actively on all station research projects in a strong team
environment;
o Actively participating in several regional and national maize breeding teams.
Play a critical role in the planning, planting, management and harvesting of
all the breeding winter nurseries and product development nurseries.
Requirements:
A PhD in Plant Breeding or Genetics and 3+ years Breeding experience OR an
MSc in Plant Breeding or Genetics and 5+ years breeding experience. Candidates
must possess the following:
A proven track record in a maize breeding program
Strong knowledge of modern technical approaches to germplasm improvement.
A strong interest in developing the comprehensive knowledge needed to
effectively drive commercial pipeline advancement decisions, like plant
breeding, genetics, statistics, molecular biology and molecular marker
applications.
The ability to communicate and function within a team and possession of
outstanding people skills.
Salary:
negotiable depending on qualifications and experience and will consist of a
basic salary, vehicle allowance, petrol card, provident fund, medical aid as
well as a 13th cheque.
Start date: Urgent.
